Rotarians Take the Stage: Supporting the Arts in Our Community

Monday, February 16, 2026
Supporting the arts is one of the core goals of the Crystal City-Pentagon Rotary Club (CCPRC), who found a wonderful opportunity to put that commitment into action. Two fellow Rotarians, Lolita Marie and DeJeanette (DJ) Horne, performed in August Wilson's "Fences" at the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company in Baltimore.

"Fences" is set in 1950s Pittsburgh and follows former Negro League baseball star Troy Maxson as he grapples with a dream deferred, a family he loves, and the choices that shape everyone around him. The play explores themes of pride, forgiveness, and the tensions between generations. It was the sixth production in the Baltimore August Wilson Celebration and received outstanding reviews.

Lolita played Rose Maxson, Troy's wife, and DJ played Troy himself, the lead role. Attending the production was a meaningful way for our CCPRC members to support fellow Rotarians and the arts community we care about, reflecting the broader Rotary spirit of connection across clubs.
